LONDON (AFX) - BAA PLC, the operator of London's main Heathrow airport, said between one fifth to a third of all departing flights will be cancelled tomorrow, a spokesman said, warning of a fifth day of disruptions due to an alleged terrorist plot against US-bound passenger jets.
About a third of all flights leaving Heathrow were cancelled today, the airport operator said in a statement, adding: 'It is anticipated that similar measures will need to be put in place tomorrow (Monday), although, with slightly less cancellations required.'
A BAA spokesman said the operator was 'hoping it (cancellations) will be less than 30 pct' tomorrow. He added that cancellations 'could be 20 pct, but probably not less.'
Flights into and out of Heathrow and other major British airports were frozen on Thursday when police thwarted an alleged plot -- linked to Al-Qaeda -- to put suicide bombers onto US-bound airliners. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/cml COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
