SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) - Israeli drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. said Monday it has launched a generic version of popular antidepressant Zoloft, also known as sertraline.
Zoloft is made by New York-based Pfizer Inc.
Because Teva was the first generic company to file for U.S. regulatory approval to sell generic sertraline, it will have a 180-day period of market exclusivity for the product.
Israel-based Teva said that Zoloft had sales of $3.1 billion for the 12 months ending June 2006.
Teva shares closed down 12 cents, or 0.3 percent at $34.39 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
Pfizer shares closed up 26 cents, or 1.0 percent, at $26.08 on the New York Stock Exchange.
