MILWAUKEE (AFX) - Journal Communications Inc., publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other newspapers, said Wednesday it is closing a commercial printing plant and consolidating its Wisconsin printing operations at another facility.
All of Hartland, Wis. plant's printing business will be transferred to either the company's Waupaca, Wis. plant or its Journal Sentinel Inc. daily newspaper production facility in Milwaukee by Dec. 31.
The closing will result in the elimination of 36 jobs at the Hartland plant, but create more than 20 new jobs at the Waupaca plant. Journal Communications said the closure and consolidation will cost about $700,000 in the fourth quarter, but save $600,000 to $800,000 each year.
Company officials said the move also will allow them to increase color capacity and invest in further technology upgrades at the Waupaca facility.
Journal Communications shares closed earlier down 13 cents at $11.08 on the New York Stock Exchange.
