(updating with larger TV4 party figures, SVT poll, seats in Riksdag)
STOCKHOLM (AFX) - The opposition centre right is heading for victory in the Swedish election according to a TV4 exit poll which gives the four party Alliance 48.6 pct of the vote, versus 46.7 pct for the Social Democrat government and its Left Party and Green Party allies.
The TV4 poll gives the lead centre right Moderate Party 28.5 pct of the vote, the Liberal Party 7.8 pct, the Centre Party 7.3 pct and the Christian Democrats 5.0 pct.
For the Social Democrats polled 35.2 pct, the Green Party, 6.2 pct and the Left Party 5.3 pct.
TV4 polled 1,700 people.
A more substantial exit poll for rival state TV station SVT gives the Alliance an even greater margin of victory with 49.7 pct of the vote versus 45.6 pct for the Social Democrats and its Left and Green Party allies.
SVT said it polled 10,000 people exiting voting stations.
The Swedish Riksdag has 349 seats. 310 pct of these are allocated on the basis of proportional representation to parties with over 4 pct of the national vote.
Parties that fail to achieve 4 pct of the national vote can still gain seats if they achieve at least 12 pct of the vote in one or more of Sweden's 29 constituencies.
The remaining 39 seats are distributed only to parties achieving 4 pct of the national vote and those only obtaining seats thanks to the 12 pct rule are excluded. stockholm@afxnews.com sjr/cml//cml COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
