WASHINGTON (XFN-ASIA) - President George W Bush said a strong UN Security Council resolution should signal to North Korea that its actions will have 'real consequences.'
'Nations around the world, including our partners in the six-party talks, agree on the need for a strong United Nations Security Council resolution that will require North Korea to dismantle its nuclear programs,' Bush said in his weekly radio address.
Bush said that by passing the resolution, the world community 'will send a clear message to the North Korean regime that its actions will not be tolerated' and that Pyongyang will face 'real consequences if it continues down its current path.'
The president said he is determined to continue working with China, Japan, Russia and South Korea, who are engaged in talks with North Korea in order to persuade it to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
The talks are currently at an impasse.
