STOCKHOLM (AFX) - Swedish Trade Minister Maria Borelius is resigning after just one week in office amid a row over tax evasion, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said in a radio interview Saturday.
Reinfeldt told state radio that he had spoken to Borelius earlier Saturday and that 'we agreed that she should resign.'
The first week had already been a major challenge to Reinfeldt's new coalition, with two other ministers in trouble over their finances.
Mother-of-four Borelius admitted this month she had paid her children's nannies in cash throughout the 1990s, saying she could not afford the going rate for the care of her children.
She also admitted to not paying her television licence, while the media said she had escaped paying tax on a holiday home in southern Sweden by means of a front company in Jersey, a tax haven. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/hjp COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2006.
