SINGAPORE (XFN-ASIA) - Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA) said its overall load factor grew to 69.6 pct in September from 67.9 pct a year earlier.
The passenger load factor improved to 77.4 pct last month from 76.5 pct the year earlier, as capacity expanded 4 pct, SIA said. The cargo load factor also increased to 65 pct from 62.4 pct.
SIA said it recorded a 5.3 pct year-on-year jump in systemwide passenger carriage last month, outpacing the 4 pct rise in capacity. Passenger carriager is measured in revenue passenger kilometers.
'The year-on-year increase in capacity arises from the introduction of additional flights on existing routes to Bangalore, Taipei, Penang, Adelaide, Guangzhou and Hong Kong,' the airline said.
There was also capacity increase when it introduced new services to Karachi, Lahore and Moscow in February and March this year. It also introduced a three-time weekly service to Milan and Barcelona.
SIA said that the passenger load factor for the South West Pacific region in September grew strongly, up 5.2 percentage points as demand on Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane services increased.
The passenger load factors for the Americas and East Asia, however, fell slightly.
