TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Sharp Corp plans to spend 5 bln yen to build a factory in Mexico to assemble LCD televisions for distribution mainly in the North American market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources.
The new Mexican plant is slated to begin producing around 100,000 units next fall, tripling Sharp's local output capacity for LCD TVs, the business daily said.
The new factory is scheduled to be built near an existing facility in the Mexican state of Baja California that assembles cathode-ray tube TVs, it said.
