TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Westinghouse Electric Co will terminate their 40-year-long partnership in nuclear power operations, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources.
Toshiba Corp purchase the Westinghouse Group this year.
Mitsubishi Heavy has agreed to withdraw from joint development of Westinghouse's AP 1000, a midsize reactor with an output of 1 mln kilowatts, the business daily said.
The two firms are now preparing to break off their cross-licensing deal as well, it said.
The partnership began in 1959, when the predecessor to Mitsubishi Heavy's nuclear power operations decided to introduce Westinghouse technology for pressurized-water reactors, the Nikkei said.
