TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Nissan Motor Co Ltd plans to shut down 30-40 domestic dealerships in overlapping city areas and open 20 new outlets in suburbs in this year to achieve better sales efficiency, the Nikkei reported, without citing sources.
Eventually, Nissan aims to divide Japan into 10 sales blocs and assign one or two sales companies to each bloc, the business daily said.
Nissan currently has some 140 sales companies operating 2,500 dealerships, it said.
As a first step, the automaker's directly managed stores will be consolidated, it said.
