SYDNEY (XFN-ASIA) - Telstra Corp Ltd is expected to decide this week whether to make a High Court constitutional challenge against the competition regulator's powers, the first of a number of key decisions over regulation to be made in coming months, The Australian newspaper reported, citing a Telstra official..
It said telecommunications group will also learn in the coming weeks whether it will continue to face fines of more than 750 mln aud for alleged anti-competitive conduct.
Telstra raised the possibility of a constitutional challenge last year after the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission set prices that Telstra can charge for line share services. The group believes the regulator's pricing decision will not allow it to make a sufficient return.
Telstra spokesman Rod Bruem told The Australian yesterday that a decision on a court challenge was imminent.
