FRANKFURT (AFX) - Negotiations are underway for wage increases which could affect around 9 mln people in Germany, as workers demand their share of profits made by German companies during the past few years, dpa news agency reported, citing union officials.
2007 is to be the year of the wage increase, Frank Bsirske, chairman of German public services workers union Verdi, told dpa.
Wages for workers in the chemicals sector are already under negotiation, and the construction industry is to demand a wage increase of 5.5 pct for around 700,000 workers, following a boom in the sector in 2006, reported dpa.
Workers are claiming their rightful share of the boom in the construction industry,' the report cited IG Bau trade union head Klaus Wiesehuegel as saying. krysia.diver@afxnews.com kd/vs COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2006.
