GAZA CITY (AFX) - Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah faction is in favour of a meeting with the rival Hamas movement as proposed by Saudi King Abdullah to end a surge of deadly internecine violence, a spokesman told Agence France-Presse.
'We favourably welcome this generous initiative,' Ahmed Abdel Rahim said, adding that Fatah was 'ready to accept the invitation at any moment wished by our Saudi brothers'.
King Abdullah earlier Sunday offered to host talks between the rival Palestinian factions in the Muslim holy city of Mecca to end the 'disgraceful' fighting that has killed 26 people in three days, the official news agency SPA reported.
