TOKYO (AFX) - Toshiba Corp is leaning toward postponing the construction of a new flash memory plant, initially due to begin at the end of the year, until 2008 or later because of a deteriorating market environment, the Nikkei reported, without citing sources.
The firm currently operates three NAND flash memory plants in Mie Prefecture and is constructing a fourth one on the same site.
Toshiba has also been looking for a site for yet another plant, but it is now considering revising the plan to put off construction of a fifth plant until 2008 at the earliest, it said.
The move came after prices for flash memory fell about 70 pct in 2006, the report said.
