MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Banca Popolare di Milano chairman Roberto Mazzotta said that merger talks with Banco Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna would be completed by the April 30 deadline, daily Il Corriere della Sera reported.
The new bank could start operating by the end of the year or early 2008, according to the newspaper.
Earlier this week, daily MF said difficulties in solving governance issues could have protracted negotiations beyond the April 30 deadline.
