TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Toshiba Corp will buy microprocessors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc in a bid to reduce production cost for its notebook PCs, the Nikkei reported, without citing sources.
The Japanese company has so far been procuring microprocessors solely from Intel Corp, the business daily said.
The firm intends to begin using AMD processors in about 20 pct of the notebooks it sells in the US and Europe as part of efforts to reduce parts procurement costs by at least 10 pct.
Prices of AMD-equipped PCs have yet to be determined, but they are expected to sell for several thousand yen to 10,000 yen less than comparable models, the Nikkei said.
