TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Yamaha Motor Co Ltd has won a landmark legal case against Chinese motorcycle makers for using its trademarks without permission, the company said.
It said the Chinese Supreme People's Court had awarded it 8.3 mln yuan in damages.
Yamaha Motor sued Zhejiang Huatian Industry Co, Taizhou Jiaji Motorcycle Distribution Co, Taizhou Huatian Motorcycle Distribution Co and another distributor, alleging that they had manufactured and sold motorcycles bearing Yamaha logos without authorization.
The court ordered the defendants to stop making and selling the bikes in question and make a public apology, Yamaha Motor said.
