LOS ANGELES (AP) - ABC News is assigning seven reporters to new overseas posts in what the network division said Wednesday is its largest expansion of foreign bureaus in two decades.
The reporters will be based in New Delhi and Mumbai in India; Seoul, South Korea; Jakarta, Indonesia; Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Nairobi, Kenya, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, ABC News President David Westin announced.
'Technology has dramatically changed how we gather the news around the world,' Westin said.
With reporters now able to shoot and produce stories, carry more portable gear and transmit material from anywhere, he said, 'we can report more stories from more locations.'
The reporters will have the task of establishing bureaus and contributing to ABC's TV newscasts as well as other news division services, including ABC News Radio and digital platforms ABCNEWS.com, ABC News Now and ABC News' webcasts.
Support will come from its larger bureaus in London, Moscow, Jerusalem, Beijing and Baghdad, the network said.
The reporters and their assignments are Joohee Cho in Seoul; Margaret Conley in Jakarta; Sonia Gallego in Rio de Janeiro; Dana Hughes in Nairobi; Karen Russo in Mumbai; Nick Schifrin in New Delhi and Lara Setrakian in Dubai.
ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co.
