NEW YORK (AP) - Auto parts supplier TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. said Wednesday its Asia-Pacific subsidiary plans to manufacture steering-wheel systems in India with Sun Vacuum Formers Private Ltd., a major steering-wheel supplier in the Indian market.
The joint venture between Sun and TRW subsidiary TRW Aftermarket Asia-Pacific Private Ltd. is pending Indian government approval and has the proposed name TRW Sun Steering Wheels Private Ltd.
The joint venture already has a manufacturing plant near New Delhi and broke ground on a new plant in Pune, India, on Oct. 21.
Sun currently supplies steering wheels in the Indian market for Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and others, TRW said.
Livonia, Mich.-based TRW is one of the world's largest auto parts suppliers and employs more than 60,000 worldwide.
Its shares closed at $24.52 on Tuesday. They have traded between $23.89 and $42.30 in the past year.
