BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Local governments must strengthen their monitoring of commodity markets with the aim of achieving consumer price stability up to the lunar new year, China's economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, said on its website.
Price supervision and controls need to be improved, the NDRC said, adding that stricter oversight is needed for grain, egg, pork and oil product prices.
Local governments should also 'stabilize prices in the grain and edible oil markets... and ensure the supply of pork and other categories of food,' the commission said.
The Consumer Price Index rose by 6.9 pct year-on-year in November, driven mainly by food prices.
