NAIROBI (Thomson Financial) - Kenyan police on Sunday warned defeated presidential challenger Raila Odinga that he would face arrest if he went ahead with an opposition demonstration planned for the next day.
'After due consideration of the prevailing security situation the meeting is illegal and any person who will attempt to attend this meeting will face the full force of the law,' the police commissioner's office said in a statement.
Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement called the gathering for Monday in central Nairobi to present the 'the People's President' to the nation.
Odinga claims that he was robbed of victory by incumbent President Mwai Kibaki, who was declared the winner of the Dec 27 election by the electoral commission earlier Sunday. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.com ak COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
