DAR-ES-SALAAM (Thomson Financial) - Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has named outgoing cabinet member Mizengo Pinda to replace Edward Lowassa, who resigned as prime minister yesterday amid corruption allegations.
Pinda, 59, was minister of state for regional affairs and local government.
His nomination has yet to be approved by parliament, which received the recommendation during a session broadcast live on public television.
Lowassa resigned after a parliamentary report implicated him and two other ministers in a corruption scandal over an energy deal with a US firm. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.com afp/rfw/rw COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
