DUBLIN, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide Building Society on Sunday declined to comment on media reports that said the bank was considering making a bid for the building society.
Media reports in recent days have said Anglo Irish Bank was looking into a bid for Irish Nationwide.
Both institutions declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.
The Sunday Independent, citing informed sources, said there had been no formal or informal contacts between Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide, nor any meetings at any level between the two.
Irish Nationwide's total assets were 16.1 billion euros ($23.35 billion) at the end of 2007, the building society said on its web site.
