SYDNEY, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Australian conglomerate CSR Ltd said on Wednesday its net profit excluding items for the six months to Sept. 30 was A$71.7 million ($50.1 million) from A$72.3 million last year.
CSR, a sugar producer and also a building materials maker, has been battling declining construction markets. The company reiterated its October forecast that earnings for the year to March 2009 were likely to be flat on last year.
Shares in CSR, which declared an interim dividend of 6 cents, closed on Tuesday at A$2.17. The stock has fallen around 29.8 percent this year, against a drop of 33.5 percent in Australia's benchmark index.
