NEW YORK, Dec 26 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose in thin volume on Friday as energy shares gained alongside oil prices and General Motors climbed after its financing arm qualified for government funds, helping it stave off potential bankruptcy.
* The S&P index of energy stocks rose as U.S. oil futures pushed above $37 a barrel after the United Arab Emirates said they will increase supply curbs in line with OPEC's announcement last week of its biggest-ever output cut.
* The Dow Jones industrial average rose 47.07 points, or 0.56 percent, to end unofficially at 8,515.55. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 4.65 points, or 0.54 percent, to finish unofficially at 872.80. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 5.34 points, or 0.35 percent, to close unofficially at 1,530.24.
