KIEV, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Ukrainian state energy company Naftogaz failed to agree a 2009 gas supply deal with Russia's Gazprom in talks on Saturday, Naftogaz Chief Executive Oleh Dubyna said after returning to Kiev from Moscow.
'Unfortunately the talks with Gazprom have finished with nothing,' Dubyna told reporters at Kiev airport. 'The talks now have to proceed at a higher level.'
He was referring to Russian supplies of gas to Ukraine, which Moscow severed on New Year's Day. Talks about transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine are being held separately.
Dubyna said Gazprom had again offered a price of $450 per 1,000 cubic metres of gas, which he said Ukraine could not accept. Naftogaz has previously insisted on a price of $201, up from $179.50 in 2008.
