SYDNEY, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set for a
flat start to the week, finding some support from a modest rise
on Wall Street on Friday, though with ongoing worries over the
outlook for the world economy likely to cap gains.
Australian stock index futures rose 10 points in after hours trade to 3,534, at a 16.9 point discount to the close in the physical index on Friday.
The S&P/ASX 200 index ended at 3,550.9 on Friday to post a net loss of 4.9 percent on the week.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index XX in early trade.
Australian data on Monday includes a private sector inflation gauge at 1030 a.m. (2330 GMT) and merchandise imports at 1130 a.m.
Coal-to-groceries conglomerate Wesfarmers could be in the spotlight following a report in the Australian Financial Review that it was close to renegotiating $7 billion Australian dollars ($4.7 billion) in debt due over the next two years.
Italian food group Parmalat SpA is eyeing a bid for the dairy unit of Goodman Fielder Ltd, according to an Italian media report on Saturday.
