ECONOMIC INDICATORS:
The Mortgage Bankers Association releases Weekly Mortgage Market Index for the week ended Jan. 16, versus the prior week, 7 a.m. (1300 GMT.) The mortgage market index read 1,324.8 and the refinancing index was 7,414.1 in the previous week.
Labor Department releases first-time claims for jobless benefits for the week ended Jan. 17, 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a total of 540,000 new filings compared with 524,000 in the prior week.
Commerce Department releases housing starts and permits for December, 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT). Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a 610,000 annualized rate for housing compared with a 625,000 rate in November. A total of 610,000 million permits are expected in December compared with 615,000 in the prior month.
Federal Housing Finance Agency issues House Price Index for November, 10 a.m. (1500 GMT) In the previous month, the home price index fell 1.1 percent.
