SYDNEY, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to rise
on Monday, buoyed by a rise on Wall Street on hopes Washington's
stimulus package will bolster the ailing economy and revive bank
lending.
Australian miners could also benefit following a rally in metals prices. Copper prices jumped 8 percent on Friday on economic recovery hopes in China, the world's largest copper consumer.
BHP Billiton Ltd's shares could open as much as 4.5 percent higher, based on its New York closing share price on Friday.
Soft drinks maker Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd may be a focus after brewer Lion Nathan Ltd abandoned an around A$7.3 billion ($4.9 billion) bid for Amatil.
Medical centre operator Primary Health Care Ltd will report half-year earnings on Monday
Stock index futures rose 2.5 percent to 3,500, a 30.1 point premium to close in the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index on Friday.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index gained 1 percent in early trade.
