WELLINGTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Asian shares are likely to
firm on Friday, as a late rally saw U.S. stocks nudge into
positive territory.
The market was cheered by a Reuters report that the Obama administration was working on a scheme to subsidise mortgage payments for troubled homeowners, and also data showing a surprise rise in retail sales in January.
The Dow Jones index fell 0.1 percent while the Standard & Poor's 500 rose 0.1 percent and the Nasdaq was up 0.7 percent.
Japanese shares are set to gain, with Nikkei futures traded in Chicago last trading at 7,810 points, 140 points higher than the last traded level in Osaka.
The U.S. dollar rose to a 10-day high against the euro on steady safe-haven flows as concerns persisted about the effectiveness of U.S. moves to combat the recession.
Crude oil prices fell below $34 a barrel on fears of oversupply, with wider commodity prices, with the exception of gold, also falling.
