WASHINGTON, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Top Obama administration officials urged a restructuring of U.S. automakers Chrysler LLC and General Motors Corp at a meeting of a task force set up to review the companies' plans, the White House said.
Led by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and White House Economic Adviser Larry Summers, the panel held its first meeting on Friday.
'Secretary Geithner and Director Summers emphasized the urgency of the issues affecting the American auto industry and the need for fundamental restructuring to achieve long-term viability,' the White House said in a statement on Friday.
