SYDNEY, March 9 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are expected to
rebound from five-year lows on Monday, with gains in metal and
oil prices seen boosting miners such as BHP Billiton Ltd
and Woodside Petroleum Ltd.
A modest rally on Wall Street on Friday could also help sentiment, but a bleak outlook for global and domestic economic growth could keep gains under check.
Trade is expected to be thin due to public holiday in Victoria state.
March stock index futures settled five points higher at 3,151.0 -- a 5.5 point premium to the close in the physical index on Friday, when the market fell 1.4 percent.
On Friday, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell 43.0 points to 3,145.5, its lowest close since August 2003. The index fell 6 percent last week, logging its biggest weekly loss since early December.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index edged up 2.6 points to 2,473.7 in early trade. ----------------------MARKET SNAPSHOT @ 2111 GMT ------------
