May 5 (Reuters) - Volcano Corp posted a wider quarterly net loss, hurt by increased operating expenses, but its revenue rose 34 percent, driven by strong sales of its intravascular ultrasound and functional measurement products.
The medical device maker posted revenue of $49.0 million that was better than analysts' estimates of $47.5 million.
For the first quarter, the company posted a net loss of $7.6 million, or 16 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $2.3 million, or 5 cents a share, in the prior-year quarter.
For 2009, the company reaffirmed its revenue outlook range of $218 million to $223 million and gross margin of 60-62 percent.
Shares of the company were trading up at $14.35 after the bell. They closed at $12.91 Tuesday on Nasdaq.
