HOUSTON, June 18 (Reuters) - Gasoline weakened on West
Coast product markets Thursday as feeble demand trumped
refinery turnarounds, traders said.
Los Angeles ethanol-blended CARBOB for June sold 2.75 cents weaker at 7 cents a gallon over July New York RBOB, which fell 0.31 cents to $2.0295 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
In San Francisco, CARBOB was 2.75 cents weaker than its Los Angeles counterpart.
Refinery maintenance had prompted refiner buying, pumping up prices, but prices have been falling in recent days, and traders said some turnarounds may be ending.
Another possible factor in gasoline weakness was imports from the Far East because, with retail prices around $3 a gallon, the arbitrage window was open, traders said.
June CARB diesel in L.A. sold 1 cent stronger at 8 cents over July New York heating oil, partially offsetting a 2.6-cent slide in NYMEX heating oil to $1.8357 a gallon.
Los Angeles jet fuel traded 0.75 cents stronger at 7.75 cents a gallon over NYMEX heating oil.
In the Portland, Oregon, market, unleaded gasoline offered at 8 cents a gallon over NYMEX RBOB against no bids, 1 cent weaker.
Portland diesel bargained in a bid-ask spread of +6/+7 cents to NYMEX heating oil, 1 cent weaker.
