July 21 (Reuters) - StanCorp Financial Group, a provider of employee benefit products and services, posted a second-quarter profit that topped Wall Street estimates, helped by higher net investment income.
For the quarter, net income was $56.3 million, or $1.15 a share, compared with $48.4 million, or 98 cents a share, a year earlier.
Excluding items, the company earned $1.29 a share.
Revenue rose to $693.7 million from $688.9 million last year.
Analysts on average expected the company to earn $1.09 a share, excluding items, on revenue of $682.1 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
Net investment income rose 6 percent to $145.4 million.
Shares of the company closed at $31.97 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
