Aug 22 (Reuters) - Hurricane Bill is moving towards Canada's Atlantic provinces as a major storm, with forecasters expecting to it reach the region on Sunday morning.
Atlantic Canada is an energy-producing region, exporting oil, natural gas and refined products to the U.S. Northeast and elsewhere. Bill is expected to pass over or near the region's oil projects, while refineries and other facilities may also be affected.
Here is a list, by province, of Atlantic Canada's major oil and gas projects and refineries that may lie in Bill's path.
NEW BRUNSWICK
The privately owned Irving Oil Ltd refinery in Saint John produces about 300,000 barrels per day. It is Canada's largest and a major supplier of gasoline and refined products to the U.S. Northeast, exporting about 175,000 bpd to the region. Though not in Bill's path, the area on the Bay of Fundy is expecting heavy rainfall from the storm.
NOVA SCOTIA
Imperial Oil Ltd operates the 89,000 bpd Dartmouth refinery near Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the Atlantic coast. The company said it is monitoring forecasts.
Exxon Mobil Corp is the operator of the Sable Offshore Gas Project. The facility off Nova Scotia has been shut down for scheduled maintenance and is not producing natural gas, but staff were evacuated on Thursday because of the approaching storm.
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
Exxon Mobil also operates the Hibernia oil project in the Jeanne d'Arc basin 315 km (195 miles) southeast of St. John's. Hibernia uses a heavy, fixed platform anchored to the seabed. It produced about 98,200 bpd in June.
The company said on Saturday it did not expect the storm to affect operations.
Suncor Energy Inc is the operator of the Terra Nova project, also in the Jeanne d'Arc basin. Unlike Hibernia's gravity-based structure, Terra Nova uses a ship to pump and store the oil from reserves under the Atlantic seabed. Terra Nova produced 98,721 bpd in May.
Husky Energy Inc operates the White Rose oil project in the Jeanne D'Arc basin. Like Terra Nova, White Rose uses a ship to pump and store oil. The project produced about 76,600 bpd in June.
Harvest Energy Trust operates a 115,000 bpd refinery in Come by Chance, Newfoundland and Labrador's only oil refinery. The operation supplies retail gasoline stations in the province and also produces distillates, jet fuel, propane and fuel oil.
