Social networking sites grab big slice of Web ads
About one of every five Internet display ads in the United States is seen on a social networking site such as MySpace and Facebook, according to a new report.
The report by analytics firm comScore highlights the increasing prominence of social media sites and broadening acceptance of the sites by brand advertisers.

BMO starts coverage on grocery stores
BMO Capital Markets on Tuesday started coverage on a number of grocery stores, rating Safeway Inc 'outperform.'
The firm wrote that Safeway could meet or possibly beat Wall Street estimates in its third- or fourth-quarter earnings.
BMO Capital also began coverage of Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co Inc with an 'underperform' rating, saying Pathmark Stores, that was acquired by the company in December 2007, will likely pressure results until the fourth quarter of 2009.

Sun deal: sources
The European Commission has yet to decide whether to clear Oracle Corp's $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc with less than 48 hours to go before a deadline, two sources familiar with the situation said on Tuesday.
The commission's Competition Directorate is debating whether to approve the deal by Thursday's deadline amid concern about Oracle getting its hands on Sun's MySQL database, according to the sources.

Shares of Oracle were flat at $21.88 while Sun shares fell 0.2 percent to $9.26.

Raytheon plans to buy BBN Technologies
Raytheon Co said on Tuesday it planned to buy BBN Technologies, which makes a device that alerts troops of incoming sniper fire and provides other mission-critical intelligence products.
The terms were not disclosed.
Morgan Joseph analyst Michael French said the purchase would compliment Raytheon business lines such as cyber security and secure communications, areas that are of rising importance as the Defense Department scales back some traditional weapons programs and directs more resources to fighting emerging security threats and bolstering aid for U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

Shares of Raytheon fell 1.3 percent to $46.56.

CIT shares down, co. defers interest payment
Shares of CIT Group fell on Tuesday, after the lender said it deferred an interest payment on some notes.
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it couldn't pay an interest payment due Sept. 15 to holders of its March 15, 2067 junior subordinated notes.

Shares of CIT were down 14 percent to $1.50.
