SYDNEY, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to open
higher on Tuesday, with miners likely to climb as a weaker U.S.
dollar boosts metals prices, and with banks tipped to rise on
optimism the bad debt cycle will be much tamer than they
provisioned for.
Wall Street posted its sixth straight day of gains, boosted the big oil companies as oil prices rose, but trading was thin due to a public holiday for Columbus Day.
Australian share price index futures for December pointed to a higher opening, rising 0.4 percent to 4,777.0, a 37.2 point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index.
The benchmark index slipped 0.3 percent on Monday as investors took profits in the top banks following a strong run-up last week.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index picked up 1 point to touch 3,179.9 in early trade.
