MELBOURNE, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to
open higher on Tuesday after Wall Street scaled new 12-month
highs on optimism for the earnings season.
Rising copper, gold and oil prices are expected to bolster the miners and energy companies, with BHP Billiton poised to open more than 1 percent higher, based on trading in its U.S. ADRs.
Share price index futures for December rose 1.2 percent to 4,852.0, a 59.2 point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index. The benchmark index fell 0.9 percent on Monday.
At annual meetings on Tuesday hearing implant maker Cochlear Ltd could give investors some idea how the sliding U.S. dollar is affecting it, while property group Stockland is expected to give an update on demand for new homes.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index inched up 4.2 points to 3,225.1 in early trade, after the Kiwi dollar hit a
15
month high.
