SYDNEY, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to open
flat on Monday, with slight gains on Wall Street offset by weaker
base metal prices that could weigh on mining stocks.
Wall Street edged up 0.25 percent on Friday after investors looked on the bright side of a grim U.S. employment report and found job losses were getting smaller.
Financial stocks will be the centre of attention, after insurer AXA Asia Pacific Holdings said it rejected an unsolicited A$5.34 per share takeover offer from Australian wealth manager AMP Ltd.
Commonwealth Bank reported a strong performance in the September quarter in a trading update).
Share index futures stood at 4,605, an 11 point premium to the 4,594 close in the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index on Friday.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index rose 0.3 percent to 3,168.2 in early trade.
