NEW YORK, Dec 1 (Reuters) - ExpressJet Holdings' > Chief Executive Jim Ream plans to retire from the regional carrier and join AMR Corp's American Airlines as the head of its global maintenance operations
ExpressJet said in a statement on Tuesday that it named board member T. Patrick Kelly as its interim CEO. Kelly has spent two years on ExpressJet's board and 11 years with American Airlines.
Ream came to the helm of ExpressJet in 2002, when it was spun off from its parent Continental Airlines. He spent 15 years at the two companies combined.
Ream will move to Fort Worth-based American on Jan. 1, 2010, where he will take on the position of senior vice president of maintenance and engineering.
He worked for American between 1987 and 1995 in a variety of positions and will replace Carmine Romano, who is retiring from the airline after 41 years, American said in a statement.
ExpressJet shares closed down 1 percent, or 4 cents, to $3.65 on the New York Stock Exchange. AMR Corp rose 4 percent, or 25 cents, to $6.29.
