THIRD AVENUE MANAGEMENT
Third Avenue Management LLC founder Martin Whitman, 85, is stepping down from his role as co-chief investment officer. Curtis Jensen has been appointed sole chief investment officer after having shared the role with Whitman since 2003. Whitman will remain co-manager of the company's Value Fund.
MACQUARIE CAPITAL
Macquarie Capital named Christoph Haschka as a managing director in its Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment advisory team. Haschka joins Macquarie from UBS in London, where he was an executive director in the Media & Telecoms Investment Bank, advising clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
CIGNA CORP
Insurer Cigna Corp said David Cordani, 43, has become president and chief executive officer. He most recently served as president and chief operating officer at CIGNA. Isaiah 'Ike' Harris Jr was named chairman of the board.
NIXON PEABODY
Lawfirm Nixon Peabody said New York State Commissioner of Housing and Community Renewal, Deborah VanAmerongen, will join as a strategic policy adviser starting February 1.
INDIA INVESTMENT PARTNERS LTD
India Investment, which manages India Capital Growth Fund Ltd, named David Cornell as its new fund manager for its fund management team in London.
Most recently, Cornell worked as a co-manager for New Star Institutional Managers, which was later acquired by Henderson Global Investors.
SOCIETE GENERALE
The corporate and investment banking company named Yang Duan, head of its global markets division for China, to replace Gilbert Tse, who was appointed as the head of Lyxor Asset Management for China.
Most recently, Duan worked for Standard Chartered, where he was head of sales, fixed income, for China.
TORUS
The insurance provider named Jackie Richardson as its new senior vice president, head of global human resources, effective immediately. Prior to this appointment, she served as Synovate's executive vice president, human resources for the Americas.
