WELLINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Asian stocks are likely to make
a strong start on Tuesday after U.S. and European markets
celebrated the new year by hitting multi-year highs on a burst of
economic optimism.
Wall St stocks made an upbeat start to 2010, gaining at least 1.5 percent to their highest in more than 15 months. Strong data on manufacturing combined with a weaker U.S. dollar to inspire confidence in the trading outlook in the new year.
British and European markets likewise rose to their highest in more than 15 months, with banks leading the gains, helped by a broker upgrade and a strong economic outlook.
Japan's Nikkei average is poised to build on its
15
month closing high reached on Monday, with Nikkei futures traded in Chicago 235 points higher than the Osaka close .
Australian shares are set for a solid start, with stock index futures at 4,932, a 55.8 point premium to the underlying index's close on Monday.
