Feb 2 (Reuters) - Nalco Holding Co posted fourth-quarter earnings that were in-line with market estimates on sales that beat expectations, helped by Asia-led growth in its paper services segment.
For the fourth quarter, the company posted a net income of $38.5 million, or 28 cents a share, compared with a loss of $473.4 million, or $3.45 a share, in 2008.
Excluding items, the provider of water treatment services and chemicals to the petrochemical sector said it earned 30 cents a share.
The Naperville, Illinois-based company's revenue for the quarter dipped 2 percent to $1.01 billion.
The company said its paper services segment, which had been posting revenue declines in recent quarters, saw a 5 percent growth in sales led by organic revenue growth in Asia.
Analysts, on average, expected the company to earn 30 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $980.9 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Shares of the company closed at $24.51 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
