LONDON, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Societe Generale has hired six senior bankers, from JPMorgan, Credit Suisse , Merrill Lynch and elsewhere, to help boost the French bank's standing in European mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
The bank stood in 16th place for announced European M&A in 2009, according to Thomson Reuters data.
It is targeting a bigger share of European investment banking, however. It is hiring senior staff in anticipation of a surge in flotations and mergers, its head of client coverage and investment banking told Reuters in a December interview.
SocGen said on Wednesday it had hired the following bankers as managing directors:
* Stefan Goetz, formerly of Credit Suisse, as Paris-based head of financial institutions
* Axel Malkomes, formerly of buyout firm 3i, as Paris-based head of healthcare
* Rafael Nagapetiants, formerly of Alfa Bank, as Moscow-based head of Russian M&A
* Marcus Schroeder, formerly of Merrill Lynch, as Frankfurt-based head of the automotive sector
* Daniel Weisslinger, formerly of BNP Paribas, will be based in Paris and cover technology
* Luis Zubillaga, formerly of JPMorgan, will serve as Madrid-based co-head of M&A in Spain and Portugal, together with Bruno Bibas.
