NEW YORK, Feb 16 (Reuters) - ABC News said on Tuesday that
its weekly gauge of U.S. consumer confidence slipped in the
latest report, further stalling in deeply negative territory as
Americans' views on personal finances continue to dwindle.
The ABC Consumer Comfort Index edged down to -49 for the week ended Feb. 14 from -48 last week.
It was the fifth straight week the index has been caught in a two-point range, though it has steered clear of its record low of -54, first hit in the week to Dec. 1, 2008, and then again in the week to Jan. 25, 2009.
With a year average reading of -48 in 2009 -- its worst on record since the survey began -- the index has not seen positive ground since March 2007.
