LOS ANGELES, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Coinstar Inc-owned DVD rental chain Redbox plans to cut 200 jobs, or nearly 8 percent of its workforce, from an Illinois call center and outsource the work to another company to reduce costs.
Fast-growing Coinstar now employs about 2,600 people.
'After considering a number of options, it was determined that using a third-party to manage our customer service operations was the best business decision for the company,' Redbox said in a statement.
The customer service call center is based in Downers Grove, Illinois. Redbox said it plans to complete the layoffs of the 200 workers by mid-summer.
Shares of Coinstar closed up 2 percent on Friday at $29.68 on the NASDAQ.
