SYDNEY, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Australian stocks are set to open
higher on Monday, underpinned by the top miners as fresh economic
optimism buoyed demand for metals. Energy stocks are also likely
to buoy the market after oil prices rose on supply worries.
The last big week for local half-yearly results will also sway the market, with oil refiner Caltex Australia, Fairfax Media and contractor United Group among the larger companies reporting on Monday.
Stock index futures pointed to a stronger opening, rising 1.3 percent to 4,666.0, a 30.9-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index. The benchmark index fell 0.4 percent on Friday.
New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index inched up 4.1 points to 3,111.2 in early trade.
