LOS ANGELES, March 23 (Reuters) - Janet Yellen, the president of the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank who is seen as a leading contender to be named vice chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, said on Tuesday that she is open to the possibility.
'I have not been nominated for the job but I been contacted by the White House and am in the process of providing the information that they have requested,' Yellen told reporters after a speech in Los Angeles. 'I am certainly providing the information requested and would be open to serving if and when I am asked to do so.'
Donald Kohn, the current vice chairman of the Fed, plans to retire in June after 40 years at the U.S. central bank.
