VENICE, La., May 2 (Reuters) - The spreading oil slick in the Gulf of Mexican has the potential to be an unprecedented environmental disaster, President Barack Obama said on Sunday.
Obama told reporters in Louisiana the focus is on capping the spill from a ruptured well, but promised that the U.S. government would do 'whatever it takes for as long as it takes' to end the crisis.
Obama said London-based BP Plc, the well owner, is responsible for the leak and 'will be paying the bill' for cleaning up the spill.
